Our site: There were two medals for Sweden at the European Championship Sprint in Huskvarna yesterday. Gold to Emil Linde, Gävle and bronze to Martin Setterberg, IF Hallby SOK.
It was fast and it was intense at yesterday’s sprint race in Huskvarna. It was also sommarhetta and intense in the dense performed in the Swedish our site-team showed what they went for in the Sprint race. Two medals they managed to take in the domestic arena.
The Swedes went out strongly in the individual time classification and had four racers as the top five in the men’s class when the heats were over. Johan Widén (1), Emil Linde (2), Martin Setterberg (4) and Matthias W (5). Linn G from Borlänge CK who ran the relay the day before was the squad’s contribution in the women’s start. She went on that ninth in qualifying.
In the first elimination phase was not as good for Johan Widén, who had problems with his chain already on the home stretch. Emil Linde, Martin Setterberg and Matthias W ran strong and progressed to the semi-final that ended with Emil Linde and Martin Setterberg made it to the finals. Thus, they had secured at least a medal to Sweden.
Matthias W and Linn G went both to the small final. Linn took a seventh place and Matthias finished sixth. For Emil Linde and Martin Setterberg went it nicely all the way and Sweden got their first medals at this year’s European Championship.
First at upploppsrakan, after an exciting final sprint took Emil Linde from Gävle gold with just a tenth of a second margin ahead of Austrian Daniel Federspiel. Martin Setterberg from one of the organising clubs, IF Hallby, made a brilliant effort and trick the bronze medal, a medal that probably tastes very good for Jönköping cyclist.
“It was comfortable here at home, since it was nice to get all the support, said Martin Setterberg to announcer Roberto Vacchi when he stood on the podium.
“I have no words for this … Magic. I’m teary-eyed, said head coach, Anders Ljungberg.
If sprint XCE
The most intense crotch during the Championship when it comes to under 1.5-2 minutes walk to the max. The track is about 500-1000 metres long with technical difficulties. It begins with individual time classification which then leads to elimination stage where skaters run the four at a time and top-2 moves on to the next round. The Sprint is similar to skiing sprint arrangement, it happens that truckers hooks into each other and penetrate each other on the track. Just like in Sprint skiing run to quarterfinals, semifinals and finals where the top in each heat move on to the exciting finale.
