History of Coos Bay, Oregon
Coos Bay, Oregon is one of the oldest settlements on the Oregon Coast, having been inhabited by Native Americans for thousands of years prior to the arrival of European settlers in the early 1800s. In 1944, Marshfield was renamed Coos Bay after its bay namesake which had been named by Heceta’s crew over a century before.
