Oscar Freire kept his line in the Sprint. With 200 meters left, he crossed the road and forced up Alejandro Valverde against the left. The jury was largely agree that this year’s Milan-Sanremo champion had deviated from its track and deklasserade him for 24th place.The decision meant that Christophe Le Mevel (Française Des Jeux) and Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin-Transitions) finished second and third respectively on the stage.
Thomas Löfkvist (Sky Pro Cycling Team) and Fredrik Kessiakoff (Garmin-Transition) is listed in the ProTour race but none of them managed to join the tight group on Monday that consisted of 24 riders. Thomas Löfkvist managed best by the Swedes, he sat with in Group 2 while Fredrik Kessiakoff finished in third.
