Lampre has ended up in the center of the investigation since several people, or real people, in the team singled out as suspects for violating anti-doping law.
In the last week, Lorenzo Bernucci visits by the police. In the search warrant seized several prohibited substances and it is not the first time that the Italian is under fire because he had previously been banned for doping. Even Alessandro Petacchis home was ransacked but unlike Bernuccis home as found no prohibited in superspurtaren.
In total there are 35 people who are suspects, and of these, around the 13 cyclists linked to Lampre. This means that the BMC Racing Team now picks off Alessandro Ballan from Paris-Roubaix pending the outcome of the investigation. Even Mauro Santambrogio constitutes a competition ban by the team.
“It has come to our attention that two of our cyclists, Alessandro Ballan and Mauro Santambrogio, is the subject of an investigation by the Italian authorities stemming from events that took place more than two years ago-when they were members of Lampre and not connected to the BMC Racing Team, the team said in a press release.
-BMC Racing Team and its members were not aware of this investigation until a few days ago and we hope to get more information on the procedure. However, we have already made the decision not to let the two compete, in accordance with the BMC Racing team’s own policy and the UCI’s code of conduct (section IX, paragraph 2). This should not be seen as determining in advance those guilty of the Italian investigation. Both will personally have to answer to the charges.
