Fredrik Carl Wilhelm Kessiakoff came to Garmin-Transitions to be one of their spearheads during the Giro d’Italia. He showed during last year’s Edition that he can run fast in the Italian mountains. But this year it has been sluggish for the Swede who now miss the season’s primary goal.

“I have still not heard anything from the team so at this point, I am pretty sure that I didn’t run the Giro. After a spring filled with disappointments, I transferred it to 100 percent to the team if I’m going to run or not. I respect totally their decision, whatever it will be, “says Fredrik Kessiakoff, in an interview with Cyclingnews during Tuesday morning.

Later that day he spoke with the team and made the decision to change the competition program in the future.

“I have been really hard to find my form in the spring. The season is long, and I will focus on the latter part of the season, he writes on his Web page.

Misfortune has helped to complicate his search for form. In the Volta ao Algarve, he became embroiled in a fall which forced him to break the race, since he broke a rib on a training trip and after he pulled out of the Vuelta al Pais Vasco because of fatigue.

“I’ve struggled this year, but I am convinced that it is mainly due to the heavy competition program from last year. It has held me back. My body has not wanted to run as hard as I wanted to, “says Frederick.

He has pulled down the intensity of training to try to get over the feeling of fatigue. The important thing for him now is to be recovered so that there is a chance to run Vueltan.
